Newcomer Suzy Quinn [0-0] had to lead off LFC 30 [0-0], in a match against Brooke Gilley [0-0]. The opening fight of an event is not always the best or easiest placement, because fighters are tasked with setting the tenor for the rest of the card. The lead off at LFC30 did just that; it provided a spectacular finish between two women making their LFC debut. Even though the fight didn’t last very long, it still managed to leave a memorable impression on the fans. Unfortunately, for Quinn, it did not go as she had planned. There is no doubt that Quinn was ready for the LFC spotlight, but ran into the feared finishing move of Gilley: “The Guillotine!”
Suzy has a profound connection to the Sturgis Bike Rally. The biker community, of which she is a member, welcomed her back and was there to support her, blunting any disappointment for the way the match turned out. The fact that things did not go her way is not a deterrent. Don’t feel sorry for her, she understands what winning or losing is all about, and you can guarantee that she will return, stronger than ever. Quinn is no stranger to the battle zone, and she will definitely get another chance to impose her brand of punishment on some unsuspecting fighter.
In the following Q & A, we catch up with Quinn and got to know her a little better:
A.C.:
What was returning to Sturgis like?
SQ:
It Felt like going home and seeing family. It was like a giant family reunion with all my biker community members. I felt great!
A.C.:
Were you surprised at all by Gilley’s Guillotine?
SQ:
No, I was not surprised at all by Brooke’s Guillotine move because it is well-known in the LFC community what her finisher was. I was just surprised by how quick the finishing move went in the actual end of the bout.
A.C.:
How did you end up with a bloody nose?
SQ:
When Brooke completed her finishing move, she slipped because it was very hot and sweaty in the ring, and it wasn’t perfectly executed as you can imagine, so her arm tightened up around where my face was and pressed my nose into the side of her. That’s how I got a bloody nose, but it was not fractured or anything. It was just a bloody nose.
A.C.:
What are you looking to get out of the LFC?
SQ:
As a lifelong athlete with a lot of background in wrestling, Jiu Jitsu, and MMA, I enjoy the sport of fighting. I also enjoy the family and sense of community that I have developed with the other LFC fighter women. I’m just enjoying the ride!
A.C.:
Have you interacted with any of your teammates or fighters from the opposing team?
SQ:
Yes, actually we’ve all developed quite a friendship, almost like family among the entire LFC teams. We’re all athletes, and we’re all professionals outside of the cage.
A.C.:
Do you want a rematch with Gilley, or are you looking at a new opponent?
SQ:
I would be willing to do a rematch just as I would be interested in a match with other equally athletic fighters as well.
A.C.:
What can fans expect from you in the future?
SQ:
Fans can expect to see me training in perfecting for my next fight. I definitely plan on being able to fully execute my signature TKO move: The Stiletto Knockout. I won’t give away the specifics of it, but let me just hint that it involves using my foot.
A.C.:
Where are you training these days and how is training going?
SQ:
I am currently training out of Atlanta at team Lima MMA facility with Cody Durden, who is a good personal friend and a pro UFC fighter. I am also based out of Las Vegas, and I train there as well with Jennifer Thomas, who is a fellow LFC fighter and a friend I’ve known for over 14 years from our wrestling days together.
