An Exclusive Interview By A.C. Mann
While most of the world waits for life to return to normal, athletes are busy staying in shape and are clamoring for their re-entry into the sporting world. Also sidelined, as most sporting events are, the LFC patiently waits, adjusts, and anticipates the return of the most controversial league in MMA.
LFC prospects who are eagerly waiting to grace the cage are now in a limbo due to event cancellations. One such fighter is Tai Emery; she is a former LFL star who played for the Queensland Brigade and Las Vegas Sin. Her friendship with Lauren Fogle [0-0] (also a former LFL star and current MMA bad-ass) led Tai to LFC.
The former electrician and model from Australia, who currently lives and trains in Thailand, is patiently anticipating her debut. Listen to her on Mike Larkin’s LFC Podcast as she describes her first impression of the league and her overall life philosophy. Tai was gracious enough to take time out of her busy schedule to answer some questions for LFC.
A.C.: How’s life in Thailand treating you and has it changed you at all?
Tai: Yes and no. Never changed, only a deeper evolved state of mind. Thailand shows you how “non-essential” you can live. I feel much more at peace through the simplicity of this life here in Thailand.
A.C. Is there a difference in the MMA training that you are getting in Thailand as opposed to previous training?
Tai: My main focus has been directed towards the 8 limb aspect of fighting (fists, elbows, knees and shins) out here at “The Powerhouse” in Rawai, Phuket Thailand. It’s ran by a collective group of international fighters. I am coming from a professional football background, so ground fighting and wrestling comes natural to me. Being in Thailand, the heart and origin of Muay Thai, I’m now only striking which is forcing me to grow my weakest skillset in mixed martial arts. With Muay Thai, there’s no option to go to ground, you really just have to grit your teeth, square up and dig deep.
A.C.: Are you ready to make a run in the LFC?
Tai: I was born ready… I take on the World and what it throws at me every single day. Hell yeah! I’m coming LFC!
A.C.: What will you bring or showcase for the LFC Nation?
Tai: A whole new character to love with a gritty new MMA style. I’m aggressive, elegant and explosive, all wrapped up in one. It’s not only that, I LOVE THE CROWD! But the supporters are what makes it for me. LFC is the perfect arena to feed your ego.
A.C.: What style of fighting will you be using in the cage?
Tai: Dirty boxing, straight up banging and the ground game of wrestling and jiu jitsu.
A.C.: Any fond memories or interesting stories you feel comfortable sharing with regards to your time with the LFL?
Tai: My entire life was built through football and athletics from a very young age. My fondest memories were the opportunities given to us to train in world-class facilities with world-class coaches. You can’t beat that as an athlete/footballer, thirsty for knowledge and greatness. My answer is always devoted to the process, there’s so much character building through the process that is required for that final show down or game day. Also, on the opposing scale of this story is the pre-game motor boating, booty smacking, and LFL locker room shenanigans that surely will be missed.
A.C.: Aside from your former LFL teammate, Lauren Fogle, are you familiar with any of the fighters in the LFC?
Tai: Yes! I love Jessie Santos [0-0], Tomiko Tajima [0-0] and Bella Ink [0-0].
A.C. Has COVID-19 affected you in any way?
Tai: On my daily mission there has been no immediate effect from COVID-19. I have a pretty simple training routine and its been like that for the last 5-6 years. Train, eat, nap, eat, train, recover/sleep, REPEAT.
A.C.: Are you anxious to get back into fighting?
Tai: Not at all anxious, excited! Right now I need to be fighting every month to gain that in cage/ring experience.
A.C.: Is there anything you want to say directly to your fans and the fans of LFC?
Tai: Firstly…cheers, and thank you so much for the initiation into the LFC world. The fan base is so involved with the new movement we are bringing: “Titties and Violence!”
A.C. Thank you, Tai.
Tai: Kindest Regards,
